PhotoMeasure™
See the answers on questions we get about the PhotoMeasure™!
-
NextGen Environmental Research Inc., the company behind ALB, specializes in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and software application development, designed this scientific board with species identifications and length measurement techniques that are based on large photo samples, which train specialized artificial intelligence models.
-
The PhotoMeasure™ board utilizes QR codes as scale targets, enabling your camera to accurately translate pixel dimensions into real-world measurements like inches or centimeters. Perfect for professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike, our board transforms how you capture and record your catches with the power of our advanced artificial intelligence.
-
If you submit a photo of a species that we do not yet on our database, simply provide the species name and its length, and we'll promptly add your photo to our collection. Your contribution will not only enhance our database but also assist in the identification of these species for future enthusiasts and researchers.
-
We post length measurement and species identification statistics on the ALB website. If your species has not yet been automatically identified, you can help us build our training database by sharing photographs and information about it.
-
The PhotoMeasure™ board features a built-in measurement ruler, catering to users who appreciate the versatility of a traditional bump board. This thoughtful addition ensures that ALB members have all the tools they need at their fingertips, combining modern functionality with classic measurement techniques for a seamless experience.
-
The effect of camera position and angle was extensively studied during the development of the PhotoMeasure™ board, which uses a complex algorithm to efficiently correct any potential distortions. By adhering to simple guidelines—such as positioning the camera over the board at the center of the fish and maintaining a horizontal axis in landscape orientation—users can achieve negligible distortion. In cases where a poorly taken photo is submitted, the system promptly notifies the user and rejects the image, ensuring high-quality results every time.
-
Yes, our extensive trials, including real-world beta testers, have proven its effectiveness in length measurement and species identification, providing reliable data that you can trust.
